Minor Quakes Recorded in Mexico and Peru as USGS Notes Several in North America

Public alerts were not triggered because activation depends on epicenter distance and magnitude.

  • Mexico’s seismic service reported a magnitude 3.0 quake at 04:18 on Nov. 4 southwest of Pichucalco, Chiapas at a depth of 4.1 km.
  • The SSN logged a magnitude 4.1 event near Tonalá, Chiapas at 15:44 on Nov. 4 with an epicenter about 122 km southwest and depth of 15.5 km, noting the data are preliminary.
  • Peru’s IGP reported a magnitude 4.0 quake at 01:02 on Nov. 5 located 34 km southwest of Palpa, Ica at a depth of 32 km, felt at intensity III in Palpa.
  • The USGS listed six earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater in the past 24 hours across North America and the Caribbean, including Alaska and a 2.8 near Covelo, California.
  • Authorities in the affected areas reported no casualties or significant damage and maintained preventive monitoring, with Mexico’s SASMEX criteria explaining why no alerts sounded.
