The earthquake was felt across Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania, with over 1,400 reports received by the U.S. Geological Survey.
There have been no reports of injuries or damage following the earthquake.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 9.5 miles, approximately 2 miles west of Rockville.
Residents reported feeling slight shaking and a low rumbling sound lasting a few seconds.
