Minnesota Vikings Acquire Cardinals QB Josh Dobbs After Kirk Cousins' Season-Ending Injury
Vikings fill quarterback void with experienced Josh Dobbs and look to maintain momentum in playoff race; Cousins out for season with Achilles tear.
- The Minnesota Vikings have traded for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs in direct response to the season-ending Achilles injury sustained by their starting QB Kirk Cousins.
- The trade for Dobbs includes a 2024 seventh-round pick, in exchange for a Vikings' 2024 sixth-round pick. Dobbs is expected to fill in for Cousins and manage the team until the end of the season.
- Before joining the Vikings, Dobbs started in all eight games for the Cardinals this season, due to a knee injury to the Cardinals' usual starter, Kyler Murray. Over these games, Dobbs threw for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions.
- Despite speculations around the Vikings pursuing Kyler Murray, the trade for Dobbs was more feasible due to Murray's significant contract that would have led to a $46.2 million hit for the Cardinals, if traded.
- Before the injury, Cousins led the NFL with 18 passing touchdowns, was second in passing yards (2,331) and yards per game (291.4), and was also third in passer rating and fifth in completion percentage. His injury is seen as a big blow for the Vikings who had just climbed back to a .500 record.
