Overview
- The BCA estimates at least 277 DWI cases could be affected, including 108 in Olmsted, 73 in Aitkin, 45 in Winona, 38 in Hennepin, and 13 in Chippewa.
- Agencies have been directed to halt use of DataMaster DMT instruments until they review and verify the dry gas cylinder data entered into each device.
- The BCA will now handle all gas-cylinder replacements and maintenance and will update procedures and training to reduce human error.
- Initial problems were identified in Aitkin, Winona, and Chippewa counties, and on Friday officials were notified of additional errors in Olmsted and Hennepin.
- Minnesota uses about 220 DMT instruments operated by more than 4,700 certified officers who enter cylinder information during setup and replacement.
