Minnesota Man Pleads Guilty to 2005 Theft of Judy Garland's Ruby Slippers from Museum

A 76-year-old Minnesota man pleaded guilty to stealing a pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz from a museum in 2005.
The man broke into the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota using a sledgehammer and stole the slippers, which he believed contained real rubies.
The stolen slippers, insured for $1 million but valued around $3.5 million, were recovered in 2018 by the FBI and local police.
The ruby slippers were one of only four existing pairs worn by Garland in the 1939 film.
The man decided to plead guilty due to his failing health; sentencing is expected in the coming months.
