Minneapolis to Pay $600,000 to Woman Alleging Police Abuse by Derek Chauvin

The settlement resolves claims that Chauvin used excessive force in a 2020 incident, months before murdering George Floyd.

Patty Day alleged that Derek Chauvin violently pulled her from her vehicle and pressed his knee into her back while she was handcuffed in January 2020.
Day suffered injuries including a fractured tooth and shoulder pain, which she claims resulted from the excessive force used during her arrest.
The charges against Day for drunk driving were later dropped after a judge ruled there was no probable cause for her arrest.
The $600,000 settlement includes $175,000 for Day and $425,000 for her attorneys, approved by the Minneapolis City Council
Chauvin, currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for murdering George Floyd, has been the subject of multiple lawsuits alleging a pattern of excessive force.
