Ministry of Defence Faces Scrutiny Over Lost Firearms and Devices

Calls for an inquiry grow as data reveals missing weapons and a sharp rise in lost electronic devices over two years.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported the loss or theft of several firearms, including a Glock 19 pistol and deactivated World War I and II weapons, over the past two years.
More than 700 electronic devices, including phones, laptops, USB sticks, and desktop computers, were also reported lost or stolen during the same period.
Data shows a significant increase in missing USB sticks and phones in 2024 compared to 2023, while the number of lost laptops decreased slightly.
The Liberal Democrats have called for an urgent inquiry, citing concerns about national security risks and the potential misuse of sensitive information.
The MoD stated that it takes the security of its assets seriously, with robust policies in place to investigate and recover lost or stolen items.
