Miniature 'Star Wars' X-wing sells for record $3.1 million at auction

A 20-inch X-wing model from the original 1977 Star Wars film was discovered in the collection of late visual effects artist Greg Jein.
The model, one of only four "hero" versions used for close-ups, was built by Industrial Light & Magic.
It sold at auction for $3.1 million, setting a new record for the highest price paid for a Star Wars screen-used prop.
Other props from Jein's collection, including a Stormtrooper costume, also sold for high prices.
The X-wing discovery after being lost for decades has been compared to finding iconic movie props like the ruby red slippers.
