Overview
- Merlin Entertainments and Mojang revealed new visuals during Minecraft LIVE on Sept. 26 that show construction footage and sections of Escape the Nether’s distinctive red track at Chessington World of Adventures.
- Escape the Nether is being billed as the land’s hero indoor-outdoor roller coaster that will move riders between Overworld scenes and darker Nether environments, though height, speed, track length and ride duration have not been disclosed.
- The development includes the world’s first Minecraft-themed hotel with nearly 70 bedrooms—20 premium and 49 standard—and themed food and drink concepts such as an underwater restaurant and a Woodland Mansion–inspired bar.
- The £50 million project is a Merlin–Mojang partnership aimed at expanding Minecraft attractions in the UK and U.S., and remains on track for a 2027 opening even though a firm launch date and final ride specs are still unconfirmed.
- If completed as planned, the land and hotel will extend visitor stays and merchandising revenue for Chessington while testing how closely a virtual game world can be translated into immersive, family-focused real-life experiences.
