Minecraft Tests Overhauled Baby Mobs With New Models, Sounds and Name Tag Crafting

Mojang has not set a release date for the full drop.

Overview

  • The updates are live for testing in Minecraft 26.1 Snapshot 2 for Java Edition and in Bedrock beta/preview builds.
  • Eight baby and farm animals receive unique models and textures: calves, lambs, piglets, kittens, wolf pups, baby chickens, baby ocelots and rabbits.
  • Baby mobs now use one‑pixel eyes for a younger look and no longer reuse scaled‑down adult models, while rabbits keep two‑pixel eyes and gain new animations for both ages.
  • Mojang recorded bespoke baby animal audio rather than pitched‑up adult sounds to give each infant mob its own personality.
  • Quality‑of‑life changes include adjusted bounding boxes, fixes such as zombie horses no longer panicking and armor no longer rendering on baby wolves and pigs, plus a new Name Tag recipe using 1 paper and 1 metal nugget.
