Minecraft Tests Overhauled Baby Mobs With New Models, Sounds and Animations

Public testing is live via Java snapshots with availability in the Bedrock beta preview.

Overview

  • Mojang is remastering baby wolves, cats, sheep, cows, pigs, chickens, rabbits and ocelots with bespoke models, textures and animations.
  • Most baby mobs now use single-pixel eyes for a younger look, while rabbits retain two-pixel eyes and gain new limb models and hopping animations.
  • Developers recorded new animal-specific audio for babies rather than relying on pitched-up adult sounds.
  • Players can craft name tags using paper plus any metal nugget to display custom names above individual mobs.
  • The update replaces scaled-down adult designs for juveniles and is available to try now in snapshots and previews for player feedback.
