Minecraft Tests Baby Mob Redesign in 26.1 Snapshot 2

Mojang is trialing the revamp for community feedback before a full release.

Overview

  • Players can try the update now in Java Edition snapshots and the Bedrock beta/preview.
  • The initial pass refreshes eight babies—calves, lambs, piglets, kittens, wolf pups, baby chickens, rabbits, and ocelots—with bespoke models.
  • Most babies switch to one‑pixel eyes for a younger look, while rabbits keep two‑pixel eyes and gain new animations.
  • Mojang recorded baby‑specific sounds rather than pitching adult audio, giving each mob a distinct voice.
  • Name Tags are craftable from 1 paper and 1 metal nugget, and technical tweaks include adjusted bounding boxes, improved rabbit movement, no armor rendering on baby wolves and pigs, and calmer zombie horses.
