Overview
- Mojang released the dedicated Switch 2 edition on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and published a launch trailer announcing the new build.
- The release enables a new graphics pipeline called Vibrant Visuals that adds enhanced lighting, deeper shadows, reflections, and greater render distance to Minecraft on Switch 2.
- Original Switch digital buyers can claim a limited-time free upgrade to the Switch 2 version while physical cartridge owners receive an in-game offer to buy a discounted digital Ultimate Collection.
- Mojang listed three paid digital editions for Switch 2—Standard ($29.99), Deluxe ($39.99), and Ultimate ($49.99)—and confirmed that existing Switch worlds can be carried over to the new console.
- Some Marketplace items will use the new visuals but Vibrant Visuals is disabled for split-screen play, a limitation that affects local multiplayer and some creator content and may shape how families and creators upgrade.
