Minecraft Adds The Sift, Its First New Dimension Since 2011

Overview

  • Mojang revealed The Sift at Minecraft Live on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, and said the new realm will feature in Minecraft Dungeons II when that game launches on Sept. 29, 2026.
  • The studio confirmed The Sift will be added to Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027, marking the first wholly new Minecraft dimension since The End in 2011.
  • A planned game drop later this year will add underground ice caves that include glowing ice crystals, a new Frozen Zombie mob that throws ice balls, and craftable freezing items such as a Freezing Potion.
  • Mojang also reiterated a console release and creator changes: Minecraft will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 27, 2026, and new Marketplace sound-effect packs plus a more robust creator platform are due later in 2026 without firm dates.
