Overview
- A brush fire ignited south of Yarnell on July 4 near State Route 89 and Mina Road and prompted evacuation orders for multiple Yavapai County zones.
- Firefighters stopped the blaze’s forward progress and state officials estimated the incident at about 24 acres and 70% contained.
- Crews completed firelines around the perimeter and used Type 2 hand crews, engines, water tenders, an air attack platform, a VLAT, SEATs, and a helicopter to suppress the fire.
- Evacuation orders for zones YCU-2408, YCU-2411 and YCU-2414 were lifted and placed in “set” status along with YCU-2405, State Route 89 was reopened, and residents in set areas are advised to be ready to evacuate if conditions change.
- The blaze burned a few miles east of the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial, a site tied to the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire, and crews remain on scene overnight to extinguish hot spots and reduce the chance of a rebound.
