Milwaukee Installs Donated 38-Foot Spruce for 112th City Tree Lighting in Deer District

Chosen for its shape, color, size and ease of access, the neighborhood spruce is now being dressed for a Nov. 21 unveiling.

Overview

  • Department of Public Works crews harvested the 38-foot Colorado blue spruce at 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 5 from the Thabet family’s front yard in Milwaukee’s Morgandale neighborhood.
  • The tree now stands near Fiserv Forum in the Deer District, which is branded Cheer District for the holiday season.
  • Urban forestry manager Chris Kling said the spruce met the city’s selection criteria despite being smaller than last year’s 64-foot display.
  • Local designer David Caruso is volunteering to decorate the tree with thousands of ornaments and lights ahead of the public ceremony.
  • The city says sponsors and volunteers cover removal, transport and decoration costs, not taxpayers, with the lighting set for Nov. 21.
