Former Bench Coach Steps Up to Replace Craig Counsell

Pat Murphy, the former bench coach for the Milwaukee Brewers, has been promoted to manager, replacing Craig Counsell who left to manage the Chicago Cubs.
Murphy has been with the Brewers since 2015 and served as interim manager for the San Diego Padres in 2015.
Murphy previously coached Counsell at Notre Dame and has a long history in college baseball, leading programs at Notre Dame and Arizona State.
Under Counsell's leadership, the Brewers had a 707-625 record over nine seasons, won three National League Central division titles, and made it to the playoffs five times in the last six seasons.
Murphy's promotion is seen as a move for continuity, with the Brewers expected to retain their entire coaching roster from last season.
