Overview
- MillerKnoll unveiled a 12,000-square-foot archive at its Michigan Design Yard headquarters on June 5 that houses more than one million objects including furniture, correspondence and design ephemera.
- The facility, designed by New York consultancy Standard Issue, features galleries and open-storage displays showcasing over 300 pivotal pieces tracing design evolution from the 1920s to today.
- Its inaugural exhibition, "Manufacturing Modern," examines the shared heritage of Herman Miller and Knoll with highlights such as Eero Saarinen’s prototype Womb chair.
- Public tours will be available on select dates in July, August and October with bookings managed through the Cranbrook Art Museum.
- A dedicated reading room and research space will support designers, scholars and MillerKnoll teams in product development and archival scholarship.
