Military-linked Official Assassinated in Myanmar

Deputy head of Myanmar's military-appointed election commission was shot dead in Yangon by rebels fighting the military government.
The attack was carried out by the People’s Defense Force, the armed wing of the pro-democracy National Unity Government.
The military-appointed Union Election Commission was established when the army seized power two years ago.
Urban guerrillas have carried out many targeted killings, acts of arson and small bombings against the military government.
The military dismissed the members of the previous election commission and appointed new ones after seizing power in a coup, declaring the 2020 election results invalid.
