Military jet crashes near San Diego base, search underway for missing pilot

A U.S. military F/A-18 Hornet jet crashed near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California late Thursday night.
The crash occurred on government property and did not result in any damage to structures on the ground.
Rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing to locate the missing pilot, who was the only one aboard the aircraft.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by military authorities.
The jet was operating out of MCAS Miramar but was not part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based there.
