Overview
- On Thursday, in the final act of a roughly 36‑hour Washington trip, President Javier Milei spoke at the Argentine embassy and promised that “while I am president” Argentina will enforce a policy of tolerancia cero against antisemitism.
- The embassy event, held under the banner “Ampliando las fronteras de la memoria,” marked Argentina’s temporary presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance and included the launch of a digital exhibit titled “Argentina y el Holocausto.”
- Milei held a private meeting at the embassy with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, who publicly praised Argentina’s leadership and signaled close bilateral alignment between the two governments.
- Earlier in the visit Milei addressed about 200 businesspeople at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, received a ‘Champion of Free Enterprise’ award, and met U.S. investors to advance energy and investment ties.
- The trip links Argentina’s IHRA role, recent measures against groups the government has labeled terrorist, and references to the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks and past Argentine bombings to frame a policy that seeks to protect Jewish communities and broaden Holocaust education in Latin America.
