The design of the medals was revealed in a ceremony in Venice.

Overview

  • The 80 mm-diameter, 10 mm-thick medals split into two halves joined by Olympic and Paralympic symbols to represent Milan and Cortina as well as the bond between athletes and their supporters.
  • Italy’s Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato produced the medals using recycled metal recovered from production waste and renewable-energy-powered induction furnaces.
  • A total of 1,146 medals will be awarded across 195 events at the Winter Olympics (Feb. 6–22, 2026) and Paralympics (Mar. 6–15, 2026) hosted in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
  • The Venice ceremony marks the latest design milestone after earlier torch and mascot reveals, setting the stage six months before the Games’ opening ceremony.
  • Led by Raffaella Paniè, the multidisciplinary design team embraced a minimalist Italian avant-garde approach to underscore collective achievement over individual triumph.
