Milan Prosecutors Seek Records From 13 Luxury Brands in Expanding Labor-Abuse Probe

Investigators are using document orders to assess whether supplier oversight prevented abuses in Chinese-run workshops.

Overview

  • On Thursday, Milan prosecutors ordered 13 fashion houses to provide supplier-selection protocols and audit findings as part of a sweeping inquiry into labor practices.
  • The order signed by prosecutor Paolo Storari names Gucci, Prada, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Adidas among others, and it does not in itself make them suspects.
  • Inspectors reported “strong exploitation” in subcontractor sites run by Chinese operators, citing very low pay and workers sleeping in factories, with some workshops producing for multiple labels.
  • Tod’s appeared in a Milan court as prosecutors seek a temporary advertising ban and external administrators, and Judge Domenico Santoro adjourned the case to February 23, 2026.
  • Earlier court measures placed Loro Piana, Manufacture Dior, Giorgio Armani Operations, Alviero Martini and Valentino Bags Lab under judicial administration, while the government promotes a voluntary compliance certificate criticized as insufficient.
