Milan Lucic Signs AHL PTO With Blues Affiliate After NHL Tryout Ends

The 37-year-old winger will use Springfield as an audition to show he is healthy for a possible NHL deal.

Overview

  • The Blues released Lucic from his NHL professional tryout on Tuesday as the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds signed him to a PTO.
  • He will report to Springfield this week for practice, and a game appearance would be the first AHL action of his career.
  • Lucic played four preseason games for St. Louis with one goal and one assist before a lower-body injury, after which the club extended his PTO in 10-day increments during rehab.
  • His last NHL games came with the Bruins in October 2023 before entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program following an arrest; the case was later dropped.
  • Releasing the NHL tryout does not block St. Louis from offering a contract later, consistent with GM Doug Armstrong’s plan to reassess once Lucic demonstrates full fitness.
