Milan and Inter Complete San Siro Purchase, Clearing Way for New 71,500-Seat Stadium

The deal unlocks a privately funded rebuild slated to begin after the 2026 Olympic opening at the current venue.

Overview

  • The clubs bought the stadium and surrounding land from the City of Milan for €197 million via Stadio San Siro S.p.A.
  • Foster + Partners and Manica have been appointed to design the replacement as part of a 281,000-square-meter regeneration plan.
  • Financing is backed by Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Banco BPM and BPER Banca, according to the clubs' announcement.
  • The sale closed before a November 10 threshold that could have triggered historic protection for parts of the structure and complicated demolition.
  • Construction is expected to start in 2027, with the new venue targeted for Euro 2032 preparations after the 2026 Games use the existing stadium for the opening ceremony.
