Furrey's contract with South Carolina is for two years, with an annual salary of $425,000.
He replaces James Coley, who left for a position at Georgia, following Justin Stepp's departure to Illinois.
Furrey has a diverse coaching background, including a successful stint as head coach at Limestone University and previous experience as the Chicago Bears' receivers coach.
Before his coaching career, Furrey had a notable NFL career, highlighted by leading the NFC with 98 catches in 2006 while playing for the Detroit Lions.
