Bonnefoy's win comes shortly after receiving the Grand Prix du Roman from the Académie Française.
The Prix Femina, judged by an all-female jury, also honored Alia Trabucco Zeran for 'Propre' as the best foreign novel.
Paul Audi received the Prix Femina for his essay 'Tenir tête', addressing antisemitism in France.
A special award was given to Colm Tóibín for his body of work, including 'Long Island'.
