Miguel Almirón Returns to Atlanta United in Permanent Transfer from Newcastle

The Paraguayan midfielder rejoins the MLS side after six years in the Premier League, signing a deal through 2027 with an option for 2028.

Miguel Almirón has completed a transfer from Newcastle United to Atlanta United for an undisclosed fee, ending a six-year stint in the Premier League.
Almirón, 30, was Newcastle's former club-record signing in 2019 and contributed 30 goals and 22 assists in 223 appearances for the club.
During his time with Newcastle, Almirón's standout season was 2022-23, where he scored 11 goals and helped the team qualify for the Champions League for the first time in two decades.
Almirón previously played for Atlanta United from 2017 to 2018, helping the club win the MLS Cup and earning accolades such as MLS Newcomer of the Year and two All-Star selections.
Newcastle plans to use the £9 million fee from Almirón's sale to create financial headroom under Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules for future squad rebuilding.
