Overview
- Officials say the victim, 49-year-old Bradley Obeirne, was attacked around 5:45 a.m. Sunday while lying in an alcove in the 200 block of South Wabash Avenue.
- Prosecutors charged Wuinayker Rodriguez-Vasquez, 16, with first-degree murder as an adult, and two 14-year-old boys in juvenile court on counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery, with all three ordered held.
- According to a detention proffer, the group approached as one teen carried a metal rod and Rodriguez-Vasquez allegedly concealed a knife in his sleeve before the victim was kicked, struck, and stabbed in the back.
- The medical examiner determined Obeirne died from a stab wound to the back and ruled the manner of death a homicide.
- Police say surveillance images led to the teens’ detention, a knife was recovered from Rodriguez-Vasquez, he was identified by his mother and another group member, and DHS records note prior Texas law-enforcement contact in 2023.
