Overview

• Torrential rains on May 28 submerged about 50 homes in the Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa neighbourhoods of Mokwa, catching residents and commuters off guard.
• At least 21 bodies have been recovered so far, including those of a woman and her two children, while many more remain missing.
• Several commercial vehicles, private cars and trucks were trapped as floodwaters surged through Mokwa town.
• Survivors pulled from the floodwaters include a mother and her two children, who are receiving treatment at Mokwa General Hospital.
• The Niger State Emergency Management Agency is leading search and rescue operations with support from local divers and community volunteers.
