Midis Adds S/20 Million and Completes Delivery of 118 Tons of Fish to Community Kitchens

The public–private push aims to bolster nutrition for vulnerable families while supporting the women who run neighborhood food networks.

Overview

  • The new allocation is on top of S/65 million already budgeted for grassroots organizations including community kitchens, popular dining rooms and the Vaso de Leche program.
  • Authorities say the fish distribution reached about 5,000 organizations that serve roughly 400,000 people in Lima and several regions.
  • The rollout was carried out with the National Fisheries Society, with deliveries in districts of Lima and regions such as La Libertad, Moquegua and Ayacucho.
  • As part of the campaign, 10 tons of fish were handed over in San Juan de Lurigancho during an event led by Midis minister Lesly Shica Seguil.
  • Officials highlighted goals to diversify protein sources and help reduce anemia, alongside plans to strengthen entrepreneurship and leadership among the women managing these services.
