Middle East Airspace Closures Disrupt More Than 1,800 Flights

Overview

  • At least 1,800 flights to and from Europe were disrupted on June 13, with roughly 650 cancellations as carriers detoured around closed Iranian, Iraqi, Israeli and Jordanian airspace.
  • El Al suspended all inbound and outbound services and Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport remains closed pending security directives.
  • Delta suspended its Tel Aviv service through at least September and United paused flights through Saturday, redirecting aircraft back to the U.S. mid-route.
  • Flights between Europe, North America and South Asia are taking longer routes via Central Asia and the Mediterranean, adding hours to transit times.
  • Air India, Emirates and British Airways among carriers offering travel vouchers, waived change fees and accommodation to ease passenger disruptions.
