Mid-Air Collision at Lost Prairie Boogie Festival Kills Skydiver

Authorities have launched an investigation with the United States Parachute Association into safety protocols after the festival’s fourth death in 15 years.

  • Two skydivers collided mid-air shortly before 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, during the annual Lost Prairie Boogie festival in Marion, Montana.
  • One jumper was knocked unconscious by the impact; although their emergency parachute deployed automatically, they died upon landing and were pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The other skydiver deployed their parachute successfully and was assessed and cleared by on-site medical personnel.
  • This marks the fourth fatality at the festival in the past 15 years, with previous deaths recorded in 2010, 2011 and 2019.
  • Officials have withheld the victim’s identity as Meadow Peak Skydiving, the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Parachute Association continue their joint investigation.
