Microsoft Unveils AI-Enhanced Features for Windows 11 Taskbar

New Microsoft 365 Companions aim to streamline access to contacts, files, and calendar directly from the taskbar.

Microsoft 365 Companions will integrate key Microsoft 365 data into the Windows 11 taskbar, allowing users to access contacts, files, and calendar appointments with a single click.
The new feature, announced at the Microsoft Ignite 2024 conference, is similar to the existing Phone Link integration in Windows 11.
Microsoft has not confirmed whether third-party developers will be able to integrate their apps into the new taskbar experience.
Enhanced search capabilities powered by Neural Processing Units (NPUs) will allow users to find files using descriptions and synonyms without needing an internet connection.
The rollout of these features is scheduled for early 2025, with initial access through the Windows Insider program on Snapdragon-powered devices.
