Microsoft to Shut Down Xbox Avatar Editor in January 2025
The decision to discontinue the feature comes after years of declining engagement, though Xbox 360 Avatars will remain usable in select games.
- The Xbox Avatar Editor, introduced during the Xbox One era, will be discontinued on January 9, 2025, due to low user engagement.
- Players will still be able to use their avatars as Gamerpics but will no longer be able to modify them or access the editor on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
- Xbox 360 Avatars, now referred to as Xbox Original Avatars, will remain functional in supported Xbox 360 games and apps.
- Refunds will be issued for any avatar-related purchases made on Xbox One or Series X/S since November 1, 2023.
- Microsoft emphasized that players can still personalize their profiles through dynamic backgrounds, custom Gamerpics, and other features on Xbox consoles and PCs.
