Despite retiring the app, users can access previous scans via the MyScans section

Overview

  • Microsoft will begin retiring the Lens app on Sept. 15, remove it from app stores and end support on Nov. 15, and disable new scans by Dec. 15, 2025.
  • The company is directing Lens users to its Microsoft 365 Copilot app for scanning functionality even though Copilot lacks several key Lens features.
  • Copilot’s scanning tools cannot save directly to Word, PowerPoint or OneNote, support business-card capture to OneNote, or offer read-aloud and Immersive Reader integration.
  • Users can still access existing scans in Lens via the MyScans folder or OneDrive after retirement but should export important files before support ends.
  • Tech outlets recommend alternatives such as Adobe Scan, Google’s PhotoScan or TurboScan to preserve full scanning workflows.
