Microsoft to Replace Remote Desktop App with Windows App on May 27

The new Windows App offers unified access to cloud PCs and virtual desktops but lacks full feature parity with the outgoing Remote Desktop app.

Microsoft will end support for the Remote Desktop app on May 27, 2025, and recommends users transition to the Windows App.
The Windows App, launched in September 2024, supports connections to Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, and Microsoft Dev Box.
Despite its broader platform compatibility, the Windows App does not yet support Remote Desktop Services or Remote PC connections on Windows itself.
Users requiring Remote Desktop Services or Remote PC connections are advised to use the built-in Remote Desktop Connection app or RemoteApp and Desktop Connection in the interim.
Microsoft has indicated plans to expand the Windows App's capabilities, potentially including support for personal accounts and Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).
