Microsoft to End Windows 11 23H2 Support on Nov. 11

Upgrades to newer releases require unique Windows SIDs, which blocks updates on cloned systems.

Overview

  • Microsoft’s final Patch Tuesday for Windows 11 version 23H2 arrives on Nov. 11, after which consumer editions stop receiving updates on Nov. 12.
  • Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations and SE are affected now, while Enterprise and Education editions of 23H2 receive updates until Nov. 10, 2026.
  • Users are advised to move to Windows 11 24H2 or the newer 25H2; 24H2 is supported until Oct. 13, 2026 and 25H2 until Oct. 12, 2027.
  • Microsoft is blocking 24H2 and 25H2 feature updates on devices with duplicate Windows SIDs, a situation common in cloned or imaged deployments.
  • Microsoft acknowledges prior authentication problems on duplicate-SID systems and recommends using Sysprep to generate unique SIDs; admins can check a device SID with Sysinternals PsGetsid.
