• On Oct. 14, 2025, Microsoft will discontinue free security and feature updates for Windows 10, Office 2016, Office 2019, Exchange Server 2016, Exchange Server 2019 and select Windows 11 editions.
• Private users can purchase Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 through Oct. 13, 2026, and enterprises have ESU options extending to 2028.
• Microsoft warns that desktop applications such as Outlook 2019 may lose reliable connectivity to Microsoft 365 services once support lapses.
• Most PCs less than seven years old meet Windows 11’s hardware requirements, but older devices will need replacement or alternative platforms.
• IT teams are urged to inventory affected systems, budget for migrations to Windows 11 or Office 2021 LTSC and schedule complex rollouts well before the October deadline.
