Microsoft Tests Taskbar Icon Scaling in Windows 11 Insider Builds

The new feature, now available to Beta and Dev channel users, dynamically adjusts taskbar icon sizes to improve multitasking and usability.

Microsoft's taskbar icon scaling feature is being rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Beta (Build 26120.3671) and Dev (Build 26200.5518) channels as part of Windows 11 version 24H2.
The feature automatically shrinks taskbar icons when the taskbar becomes overcrowded, allowing more apps to remain visible without moving to a secondary menu.
Users can customize the feature with options to scale icons always, only when the taskbar is full, or never, based on their preferences.
The behavior is similar to macOS, where dock icons shrink as more applications are added, reflecting cross-platform design influences.
This update is part of Microsoft's broader efforts to enhance Windows 11's multitasking capabilities, alongside the testing of a Quick Machine Recovery tool and updates to the Recall feature.
