Microsoft Starts Windows 10 Extended Security Update Registration in Windows Update

The phased in‑app enrollment lets eligible PCs receive security fixes for one additional year beyond the October 14 cutoff.

Overview

  • The ESU registration link is now surfacing on some Windows 10 machines under Settings > Windows Update, with others seeing a notice that registration will be available soon as the rollout progresses.
  • Enrollment offers two paths: a one‑time payment of about $30 for devices using a local account, or enrollment by signing in and staying signed in with a Microsoft account.
  • The ESU provides security‑only patches from October 15, 2025 through October 13, 2026 and does not include feature updates.
  • A single ESU registration can unlock updates for up to ten devices associated with the same account.
  • Eligibility requires Windows 10 version 22H2, an activated Home/Pro‑class license, current updates, and administrator rights, with consumer access reported as free in the EEA and generally paid elsewhere.
