Microsoft Starts Auto-Upgrading Windows 11 23H2 PCs to 25H2 After Support Ends

Unmanaged consumer editions get the upgrade automatically with only brief deferral windows.

Overview

  • Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 version 23H2 reached end of servicing on November 11, 2025.
  • Microsoft confirmed the rollout has expanded and is auto-installing version 25H2 on unsupported Windows 11 releases, including 23H2 and in some cases 22H2 and 21H2.
  • Users on Home and Pro can choose a restart time or postpone for only a few weeks, but they cannot permanently block the upgrade.
  • Enterprise and Education editions remain supported on 23H2 until November 2026, and Windows 10 users are not being force-upgraded, with 25H2 offered only as an optional update.
  • Version 25H2 functions largely as an enablement update with few new features, and some very old CPUs lacking required instructions cannot move to 24H2/25H2.
