Overview

  • Out-of-band cumulative updates KB5066189 (Windows 11 23H2/22H2), KB5066188 (Windows 10 22H2, LTSC 2021, IoT 2021), and KB5066187 (Windows 10 LTSC 2019/IoT 2019) correct failures in Reset my PC, Fix problems using Windows Update, and RemoteWipe CSP introduced by the August security update.
  • Microsoft says these OOB patches supersede the problematic KB5063875, KB5063709, and KB5063877 and should be applied instead on systems that have not yet installed the August updates.
  • The emergency updates are available as optional downloads via Windows Update and Windows Update for Business or from the Microsoft Update Catalog, and devices must be restarted to finish remediation.
  • Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server are not affected, whereas Windows 10 and older Windows 11 builds experienced the issue with no simple workaround before this fix.
  • Microsoft previously acknowledged related August problems, including upgrade failures with error 0x8007007F resolved by August 15 and delivery issues addressed through KIR or separate fixes.
