Overview
- Microsoft released out-of-band update KB5070773 to restore USB keyboard and mouse functionality in the Windows Recovery Environment.
- The defect originated with the October 14 security update KB5066835, which prevented users from navigating WinRE options.
- The fix arrives as a cumulative update through Windows Update, installs automatically, and requires a system restart.
- The release covers Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2 as well as Windows Server 2025, moving builds to 26200.6901 or 26100.6901.
- Microsoft notes the issue was confined to WinRE, not normal Windows operation, and earlier recovery updates KB5067039 and KB5067019 did not resolve it.
