Microsoft Sets October 2025 Deadline for Windows 10, Office and Exchange Support

Acting now to secure extended patches or upgrade systems is essential to avert compliance and security risks from upcoming support lapses.

Overview

  • Microsoft will end free security updates for Windows 10, Office 2016/2019 and Exchange Server 2016/2019 on October 14, 2025.
  • Consumers can activate a free one-year Extended Security Updates (ESU) extension for Windows 10 via a new activation wizard, extending patches to October 13, 2026.
  • Enterprises can purchase paid ESUs for Windows 10 to prolong security updates for up to three additional years beyond the end-of-support date.
  • Support for Windows 11 version 23H2 continues until November 2025, but the upcoming 25H2 release will enforce TPM and Secure Boot requirements.
  • IT teams must inventory legacy deployments, budget migrations to newer OS and productivity suites, and implement upgrades or ESU enrollment to avoid service disruptions.
