Overview
- Microsoft will end free security updates for Windows 10, Office 2016/2019 and Exchange Server 2016/2019 on October 14, 2025.
- Consumers can activate a free one-year Extended Security Updates (ESU) extension for Windows 10 via a new activation wizard, extending patches to October 13, 2026.
- Enterprises can purchase paid ESUs for Windows 10 to prolong security updates for up to three additional years beyond the end-of-support date.
- Support for Windows 11 version 23H2 continues until November 2025, but the upcoming 25H2 release will enforce TPM and Secure Boot requirements.
- IT teams must inventory legacy deployments, budget migrations to newer OS and productivity suites, and implement upgrades or ESU enrollment to avoid service disruptions.
