Overview
- Microsoft set its Windows and Surface event for Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, and confirmed that CEO Satya Nadella, Windows and Surface head Pavan Davuluri, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang will appear.
- Microsoft and NVIDIA plan to center the event on RTX Spark systems such as the Surface Laptop Ultra, which Microsoft says pairs a Blackwell-series RTX GPU with up to 128GB of unified memory and can run models of roughly 120 billion parameters locally.
- Microsoft has already tuned Windows 11 for the new hardware with a Workload Profile Scheduling system to spread tasks across many CPU cores and a tuned Prism emulation layer to improve x86 app performance on Arm-style architectures.
- Multiple OEMs, including Dell, Lenovo, and Asus, have announced RTX Spark devices and Microsoft has shipped an RTX Spark Dev Box for developers, but independent performance benchmarks, final pricing, and broad retail availability have not yet been published.
- The event serves as a practical test after the mixed reception to Microsoft’s May 2024 Copilot+ PC effort and could show whether on-device AI can deliver meaningful speed, privacy benefits, and new workflows for users and developers.
