Overview
- An October 2025 update caused Windows 10 22H2 PCs enrolled in ESU and LTSC 2021 editions to display a false “end of support” alert in Windows Update.
- A server-side cloud configuration fix is being deployed, and administrators can remove the warning immediately using a Known Issue Rollback Group Policy followed by a restart.
- Microsoft confirms the issue is cosmetic and that eligible devices will continue to receive security patches according to their lifecycles, including upcoming Patch Tuesday releases.
- ESU enrollment remains open through October 13, 2026 with options that include a $30 fee, redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, enabling Windows Backup, or a free route for EEA residents.
- Microsoft is also promoting direct upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 11 version 25H2 via in-OS prompts, as Windows 10 still represents about 41–42% of active PCs, according to StatCounter.
