Microsoft Rolls Out Customizable, Faster Right-Click Menu in Windows 11 Preview

The optional KB5127936 preview will reach all Windows 11 devices as part of Patch Tuesday on Nov. 10.

Overview

  • The optional preview update KB5127936, which Microsoft published on Oct. 28, begins a staged rollout so some users see the new features immediately while others will get them later.
  • The update adds a redesigned context (right‑click) menu that opens faster, reduces clutter, and lets users customize which commands and app extensions appear.
  • Users can restore familiar actions like Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename and Move Properties, choose whether app extensions show in the main menu or a submenu, and toggle built‑in commands on or off.
  • KB5127936 also brings File Explorer refinements such as a consistent search layout, a ~ shortcut to jump to the user profile and AppData, initial Folder Options dark mode, and a Cloud Rebuild recovery option that reinstalls Windows from the cloud but does not preserve installed apps or user files.
  • Microsoft published large offline .msu installers (around 5GB) via the Update Catalog, and it says the full set of changes in Build 26300.9818 will be distributed broadly on Patch Tuesday; users can enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle to increase their chance of receiving staged features sooner.
