Microsoft Reworks Windows 11 Right-Click Menu to Cut Clutter and Speed It Up

Built-in controls will let users hide or group third-party entries to reduce menu lag.

Overview

  • Microsoft published detailed plans on Tuesday that overhaul the Windows 11 context menu to reduce visible items in the main menu so the menu appears and opens faster.
  • A new 'Menü anpassen' entry will appear at the bottom of the context menu and open a Personalization settings page where users can enable or disable built-in commands such as Print, Send To, and Create Shortcut.
  • Entries added by third-party programs will be manageable: users can move app extensions into a single grouped submenu or hide that submenu entirely to prevent installed apps from cluttering and slowing the main menu.
  • Standard actions like Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete and Share can be restored as text lines and the Properties item can be moved to the end to match long-standing user preferences.
  • Microsoft is also testing File Explorer fixes to speed startup, reduce short hangs during navigation and show file sizes in KB/MB/GB, and the changes are rolling out to Windows Insider participants with no general release date announced.
