Overview
- The update rolled out as an optional late-July 'D' preview that raises 25H2 to build 26200.8973 and 24H2 to build 26100.8973.
- Microsoft says the preview speeds up the Start menu and taskbar and fixes reliability problems in explorer.exe, Task View, jump lists and sign-in performance.
- Windows Search gains better typo tolerance and more accurate settings results while File Explorer now shows file sizes in MB and GB instead of only KB.
- KB5101684 expands Secure Boot certificate coverage so more existing PCs can validate Secure Boot, and Microsoft is working with OEMs as the rollout continues.
- The update is optional now and must be installed manually through Windows Update, the Microsoft Update Catalog, or the .msu offline installers, and its features may roll out gradually and vary by hardware.
